In 2010, there was a massive oil spill that cost billions of dollars to recover from and much of the wildlife was harmed.
Oil spills are a serious risk and in 2010 the biggest oil spill in history occurred. The environment and wildlife were all significantly harmed forever.
“Basically everywhere the oil went, it created harm.” - Donald Boesch, U.S. witness
Oil spills are catastrophic events that cannot go unnoticed. Below is our campaigns views on how to combat oil spills
Oil Spills
In 2010 the BP oil company experienced the biggest oil spill in the history of the world. The Deepwater Horizon rig spilled roughly 200 Million gallons of oil. This spill impacted everyone living around the gulf. The spill cost fishermen over $90 million and BP well over $5 billion. Not only this but destroyed the environment and killed thousands and thousands of bay birds and much of the Gulf’s marine life. This destruction is why Connor is for the Gulf of Mexico Economic and Environmental Restoration Act, which cleans and protects the Gulf and other bodies of water. Connor Van Huisen supports the Gulf of Mexico Economic and Environmental Restoration Act because this is the most efficient way of cleaning up the oceans and wildlife from the harmful oil spills. Though the cost of oil cleanup is expensive, our campaign believes that the wildlife and oceans desperately need to be saved from all of the thick layers of harmful oil substances. This issue is controversial because some citizens believe that since the oceans are so big and the oil spill is "small" compared to the bodies of water, that cleanup is not necessary to benefit wildlife and is even a waste of time and money. However, others believe that oil spills are detrimental and need to be taken care of in order to clean up the living space for animals and clear up the water so that wildlife can thrive with no restrictions from a heavy oil substance. Overall, our campaign supports the Gulf of Mexico Economic and Environmental Restoration Act because this is the most effective way to clean up the oceans as much as possible.
