The death penalty is a controversial topic that has dominated headlines due to people having different beliefs on the issue
Death penalty has wreaked havoc on families, yet others believe that the death penalty is the only way to achieve true justice.
“I support the death penalty because I believe, if administered swiftly and justly, capital punishment is a deterrent against future violence and will save other innocent lives.”- George Walker Bush
The death penalty is going to be discussed below with how our campaign views the issue.
Death Penalty
Capital punishment is currently used in 29 of the 50 states. The judicial branch has most of the control over the death penalty and needs to take effect on getting rid of it. According to DPIC (Death Penalty Information Center), homicide rates are significantly lower in states, like New York, that don’t use the death penalty. One big reasons states use the death penalty is the feeling of safety and protection. Having a family member, friend, or neighbor murdered can be a traumatizing life experience. Knowing that the same person can’t come for you or your family ever again is comforting. This why Connor is for the death penalty. Connor supports the death penalty because families will feel that there is a sense of justice for the harm that was done to their loved one. Our campaign supports the death penalty for serious crimes because this keeps other citizens safe, knowing that there is no violent serial killer on the run. We do take in to consideration that violence is never a go to idea, however, we empathize with the families of those who have lost a loved one. Everyone does deserve a second chance in life, but some crimes should be reprimanded justly, and sometimes the death penalty is the only way to prove that crimes are a serious issue. Overall, we believe that the death penalty should be supported so that victims or family members of victims could feel justice. If the family members of the victims do not support the death penalty, conducting the death penalty on the suspect would be further discussed in court.
